'Breadth' - Old thoroughfare I

'Breadth' - Old thoroughfare I

oils on panel

First of two paintings responding to the road I used to live on - Withersfield Road, Haverhill Suffolk. The road is noisy, lorries constantly squeezing people onto narrow pavements but it has its history and I challenged myself to make something creative from such an initially unappealing subject. I concentrated on different building shapes and textures to make a composition of connected/disconnected images. I even included the shape of the golden fish from the chip shop that projects merrily out over the traffic.
